Consume to Express
To express ourselves, we must consume
SEPTEMBER 2025 EDITION
{Monday 8th of September 2025|
Hey, my darlings! Welcome back to another blog by ILY3000! If this isn’t your first time here, thanks for coming back—I missed you! And if it is your first time, welcome, welcome! I’m so happy you’re here.
Creativity: “the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness.”
It all resides within us, and we have all generated it at some point. However, what occurs when we cannot activate our creative side? What if we struggle to combine ideas to create something uniquely our own? That’s what we call a creative block.
It happens to everyone in various forms of production, careers, and occupations. That’s when we need to link inspiration and ideas, but how can we do that when we don’t consume information? To express ourselves, we must consume.
We consume every day. We all have different perceptions of understanding information, mainly through digital means—particularly social media and the internet. Sometimes, these feeds can become oversaturated and overstimulating to the mind, to the point where we don’t know what information we want or need to keep.
Therefore, before discovering ways to consume effectively, we need to declutter our minds and limit social media use. A helpful guide on this is available by reading my blog: “A Vacation Away From Socials” and “How to Declutter the Mind”
Now, here are ways to consume more!!
A good read is what we need.
I think we all know why this is evident to do often. Books give you an insight into other people's perspectives, aside from the characters, but also the authors ' understanding of why they chose certain paths to the story. It doesn’t matter if it’s fiction or non-fiction or even a blog like this. Reading always expands your intellectual horizon.
Add a good film to the mix
What’s equally better than letting your imagination run wild is seeing someone else's come to life through a camera. Doesn’t matter if it’s a blockbuster or an indie film; it always allows you to understand more through the cinematography, lighting compositions, dialogue, themes of the story, and so many other details you can pick from. And if you don’t know what films to watch, try out this website: “Movie Of The Night” to help you pick a film, enjoy!!
Listen more –
Not just to music, but to podcasts, audiobooks, and even people around you. Every voice carries stories and ideas. When you’re commuting or walking outside, instead of prompting to use your headphones to listen to music or turn on noise cancellation, opt to listen around you and catch a thing or two. You never know what string ideas.
Use those eyes and observe
Inspiration is everywhere when you’re present. Sit in a café, people-watch, and study the little details around you. When you’re eating out, instead of being on your phone, just be present and look around you, observe, and maybe even journal it down. No matter how whimsical it may be.
Let’s move more –
Dance, walk, stretch. The body can consume rhythm and environment, too. Movement isn’t just about exercise; it’s about waking up your senses and letting your body consume the world around you. Dance in your room, walk through your neighbourhood, stretch when you’ve been sitting too long. Each step, each sway, each bend is your body picking up rhythm, energy, and new perspectives. When you move, you’re not only refreshing your mind but also giving space for ideas to come alive. Creativity loves motion.
Silence –
Ironically, stillness is consumption too. It clears space for thoughts to arrive. I recently watched a video titled “You Need to Be Bored. Here’s Why”. When watching this video, it made me understand the importance of being bored and letting your mind go free instead of consuming it in some short (or not) form of entertainment. We should learn to do things without technology in front of us. Go on a walk in silence, read in silence, eat in silence, stand in a queue in silence, take a few minutes of silence on a plane before watching something.
Silence brings forth ideas that are locked away; give it a try.
