The Tracee Ellis Ross Workout
Body stays tea till you're fifty
JUNE 2026 EDITION
20th of June 2026
Tracee Ellis Ross is one of those women you can’t help but admire — a true role model. There’s so much to love about Tracee: her fashion sense, philosophy, solo travelling adventures, and the way she breaks the norm by showing that a woman is still a woman who chooses to be child-free and unmarried.
Personally, my favourite thing about Tracee is how she removes the fear of ageing that society instils in women — and how she shows peace and comfort you can find in solitude (i.e., solo travelling). Tracee is a voice for both younger and older women.
In this blog, we’ll look into Tracee’s fitness lifestyle. It’s something she prioritises and stays consistent with, which is inspiring — especially for a woman their age. Tracee’s fitness regimen is one of the best, most thoughtfully curated ones to take inspiration from or follow.
After researching Instagram posts and stories, TikTok videos, podcasts, and interviews, I’ve put together Tracee’s workout routines.
Lymphatic Drainage Massages
Let’s start nice and slow by opening our body fluid systems. Tracee advocates for frequent lymphatic drainage exercises on the body, especially if you are seated in a place for long periods of time, such as travelling (aeroplane, bus and train), desk work or studying. From Travel + Leisure Magazine, in an interview with Tracee about her travel hacks, she demonstrates lymphatic drain techniques, such as patting the armpits, running her knuckles on her sternum and patting her thighs.
Lymphatic Massage tools are best used for sculpting your body and not just getting those “juices flowing”. Lymphatic tools such as large body gua sha tools and wooden maderotherapy rollers can be used on your lymph nodes, hip flexor, inside your groin and other parts of the body.
Because of her, I, too, have incorporated lymphatic drainage exercises into my routine. I do them first thing when I wake up, especially before a workout session, to get everything flowing.
However, before following any lymphatic exercise or massage videos on the internet, please do your research about them and know if you want to add them to your routine. Lymph nodes are points in your body that help move fluids around in your body and can be damaged if not done well, causing health risks. For instance, I don’t do lymphatic drainage when I am going on 40 min walks because the walking is doing the ‘flow’ for me.
Pilates
Pilates has been a popular exercise in the fitness world in recent times, and it’s a testament to how effective it is through people's results and experiences. Pilates is a low-intensity workout that guides you to focus on your form and breathing more than most workouts. It takes patience and consistency to see desired results. Pilates helps to sculpt, strengthen, and improve flexibility. Tracee loves to sweat, and Pilates just does that for her.
Check out my blog, ‘Do You Really Need Pilates?’, if Pilates is the right workout to add to your routine.
Though Pilates is amazing, the founder of Pattern Beauty doesn’t just stop there. Just as stated in my ‘Do You Really Need Pilates?’ blog, Pilates is most effective with Cardio, which is why Tracee follows the Tracy Anderson Method.
The Tracy Anderson Method
Tracy Anderson is a celebrity fitness coach for 25 years. She focuses on dance-based cardio and a mat exercise program (most derived from pilates moves) that aims to build and sculpt muscle without adding bulk. The Tracy Anderson Method is a perfect blend of cardio and pilates.
Workout videos from the actress are seen working out in Tracy Anderson’s studio in Midtown, Manhattan, New York. However, it is unknown if Tracy Anderson is her personal trainer. Still, the workout moves she does in the fitness studio are inspired by The Tracy Anderson Method.
From a Goop interview, Tracy’s exercises focus on muscles you use every day, like the biceps, joints like the shoulders, hips and knees. A free video of her workouts can be found on YouTube, such as these two from Goop [1, 2], to have a glimpse of her method is one that interests. I’m all for trying out new cardio-incorporated pilates, so I am excited to incorporate TA’s method into my routine.
You can also follow Tracee’s arm workout routine from her tiktok. Based on Tracy Anderson’s 30 reps, you can do Tracee’s arm workout for as many sets as you want.
Although Tracee works out in TA’s studio and follows some of her routines, The Tracy Anderson Method is not all liked and accepted in the fitness world. Some say her moves are unethical, and some say her routines have helped them with proof to show. So, before you embark on the TAM, make sure to do due research about her and the routines you want to follow.
Equipment and Tools
Tracee is not shy about using some equipment and tools in her fitness lifestyle. She uses vertical climbers for boosting her overall body coordination, weights and kettlebells for building muscle, and battle ropes.
Diet
Working out without changing up your diet is not effective if you’re trying to improve your fitness lifestyle. Ms Ross avoids dairy, sugar and gluten. Other than that, she eats everything. Omitting these classes of food leaves room to intake more fibre, protein and whole foods. Cutting out sugar specifically helps a lot during a weight-loss journey because it reduces bloating and inflammation in the face, arms, and thighs.
Which part of Tracee Ellis Ross’ fitness lifestyle would you add to yours?
